About Us

Silver Dollar Farms was founded in 1963 by Theodore “Ted” Thompson. Originally Silver Dollar Farms was a purebred Angus cattle and grain farm based in Streator Illinois. The family farm consisted of Ted, his wife Judy, their three daughters Amy, Tammy, and Julie as well as their son Tad. In the early 1980’s the farm diversified into the purebred Suffolk sheep industry.  Ted retired from the Angus business in the late 1990’s. Currently the farm is operated by their son, Dr. Tad and his wife Amanda, their three boys Isaac, Thomas, and Jacob as well daughters Isabella and Caroline.

Currently the flock is made up of an elite group of Club Lamb and Southdown donors along with partnership Goat and Sheep sires. In recent years SDF has had success in the showring producing top quality wether and ewe prospects offered on online auction sites and live sales.

In addition to SDF, Tad is a veterinarian operating a clinic specializing in small ruminant, sheep and goat, reproduction, Reproduction Specialty Group Inc. The SDF program utilizes RSG’s facilities and services to flush and LAI females each year and house males for fresh and frozen semen sales.  Several bucks are also featured in RSG’s Sire Catalog.

We look forward to working with you on your program’s goals and hope our genetics can play a role in your families success.
